Basic Cookie Dough

Recipe #1
1 cup shortening (butter or butter-flavored Crisco)
2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
¾ cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups flour (1/3 of which can be whole wheat if desired)

Beat shortening and eggs together. Add salt, sugar and vanilla. Slowly add flour and mix thoroughly.

Wrap dough in waxed paper and chill at least 2 hours.

Tear off a hunk and roll out to an even ¼" thickness. Cut out cookies in desired shapes and bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 10 minutes at 350°.

1½ cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup shortening (butter or butter-flavored Crisco)
3 eggs
4 ½ cups flour (1/3 of which can be whole wheat if desired)
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda

Cream together: sugar, vanilla, shortening and eggs. Add flour, salt and soda.

This recipe can be used at once but keep cool.

Tear off a hunk and roll out to an even ¼" thickness. Cut out cookies in desired shapes and bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 10 minutes at 350°.
